1886 – The Tobacco Redemption Office was formed (in the area of the former brandy distillery)
This office was one of the 36 bureaus in the country
Before the Ist World War all these tobacco barns were built in the same architectural style and structural appearance nationwide
This local office had 4 drying barns but one of them burned down
The 2-storey building’s wooden ceiling is supported by decorated steel columns
The beam and the filling decking are oak
The drying tobacco preserved the wooden structures effectively (plus it was treated with flame retardant)
Until the middle of the 20th century this was the largest tobacco office in the country
From 1975 the tobacco industry started to changing so these old offices became outdated
In the last years the office produces for a tobacco factory in the neighborhood
The office closed in the early 2000’s
Today some of the barns funciton as a warehouse
